Cryptomator Files Stored In iCloud Not Available On Mac

Overall, Cryptomator is very reliable and its amazing how simple it on one hand encrypts data, but on the other hand makes it available across the Apple world (e.g. iPhone, iPad, Mac). However, from time to time I faced that files stored with Cryptomator in the iCloud did not become available on my Mac.

Background

I am a heavy user of Cryptomator and store with it nearly 2TB of data in the iCloud. I read and write Cryptomator encrypted files in the iCloud leveraging on iPhone, iPad and Mac. However, from time to time I face the issue that files stored for example with iPhone are available on the iPad but they never become available on my Mac.

I found it difficult to find clear advice on this issue in the internet, but I saw that there were people complaining about the same or similar issues. If you face this issue, what I found out maybe helps you too.

Allowing you to better understand what is my environment and how it maybe fits to you, I am disclosing it.

My enviornement:

I tried many things and nothing really worked, except one solution:

  • On your Mac, go to Settings
  • Click on AppleID
  • On the left hand site, click on Overview
  • Click Sign Out

After sign out restart the computer. Once restarted:

  • On your Mac, go to Settings
  • Click on AppleID
  • On the left hand site, click on Overview
  • Click Sign In

In my case, after some time (I have quite with 2TB quite a big iCloud Drive) I again have files available on the Mac and this in a more quickly manner.
