Wireguard is a very stable and fast VPN. Once it is running, you may be do not need to reboot the system for months or even years. If you however from time to time like to check which Wireguard version is running on your system, than this How To is helping you.
For this How To I am leveraging on a standard Debian Linux installation. It’s reduced to the minimum, allowing to keep the system as secure as possible.
We leverage on the “apt” command in order to understand which version is installed. To do so, fire the following command:
sudo apt search wireguard
This will fire you something like the below at you:
sudo apt search wireguard Sorting... Done Full Text Search... Done wireguard/buster-backports,now 1.0.20210223-1~bpo10+1 all [installed] fast, modern, secure kernel VPN tunnel (metapackage) wireguard-dkms/buster-backports,now 1.0.20210219-1~bpo10+1 all [installed, automatic] fast, modern, secure kernel VPN tunnel (DKMS version) wireguard-tools/buster-backports,now 1.0.20210223-1~bpo10+1 amd64 [installed, automatic] fast, modern, secure kernel VPN tunnel (userland utilities)
In the above you can read out 1.0.20210223. This is the version that is running on the system. The version on your system maybe is a different one. In case you like to install the latest version, please check out the additional information.
I suggest to surf to the official Wireguard website in order to find the latest version of Wireguard.
