Please consider that uninstalling an Anti Virus solution potentially exposes your system to malware. In this how to I do therefore in no way recommend you to remove the anti virus protection from your system. However, you may or may not have reasons why you like to do this. In my case the reason simply was that clamav did not work properly anymore. After removing it and installing it again, the issue was fixed.

Uninstalling clamav on a Debian Linux is very simple and can be done by the execution of the following command:

sudo apt-get remove clamav

The output after hacking this command will look like this:

root@XXXXXXXX:~# sudo apt-get autoremove clamav
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
clamav
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 797 kB disk space will be freed.

Additional Information

In case you regret having removed / uninstalled your anti virus protection, than you can install it again by hacking the following command on your command line:

sudo apt-get install clamav

To more completely remove clamav, incl. dependent packages you enter:
sudo apt-get autoremove clamav
Note: this also removes dependent packages!

To even more completely remove clamav, incl. dependent packages and the configuration files you enter:

sudo apt-get purge clamav
Note: this also removes any configuration and the dependent packages!
